PNTA: Your Guide to the Future
Active Speaker Systems
The Future of Sound Amplification has arrived. Active Speaker Systems combine speaker and amplifiers in one unit! With an Active Speaker System, you’ll enjoy:
- Less cabling and shorter set-up time
- Lower cost than separate speakers and amps
- None of the variability of external amps
- Bi-amplification, separating high and low frequencies for reduced distortion
- Greater extension and faster response
- Precise electronic crossover
- Audiophile-quality designs
- Improved overload protection
- Wide-dispersion horn for smooth coverage
- Low negative feedback
- Vastly improved damping

Meet KV2 Audio at PNTA
KV2 Audio is a relatively new company that manufactures a full line of active systems. “Their speakers give you the most bang for your buck,” says PNTA audio specialist Andy Krahn, “and their systems deliver astonishing dynamic range, extreme definition and consistent clarity at any volume level.”
The speakers utilize class A power amps for a transparent high end and class H for a responsive low end. The modular systems offer the advantages of high-quality construction, reliability, efficiency, light weight and easy set-up. KV2 components can also be added to your existing systems to further enhance sound quality.

Mackie: Making Expensive Technology Affordable
When designing new audio components, Greg Mackie often starts with the goal of making expensive technology affordable through good engineering and economies of large-scale production.
For active speaker systems like the SRM-450, he also specified top design criteria that included:
- High precision, high output and accurate playback
- Very wide, smooth dispersion of mid and high frequencies
- Ergonomically correct physical design for easy transport and set-up.
The result is a series of active Mackie speaker systems that have sophisticated internal circuitry, including a phase-accurate electronic crossover. Their power amplifiers are optimized to work perfectly with each transducer and tightly coupled to the transducers via servo feedback circuitry.
In other words, the transducers can "talk back" to the amps. This closed system means total, precise control and far better sound. Also, having sophisticated signal processing electronics on board allows you to exercise total control over a wide range of critical functions that you cannot get from a passive crossover system.
